A flood advisory is in effect until 3:30 p.m. for various areas on the Big Island.

At 12:19 p.m., radar indicated a stationary area of heavy rain over the Kohala districts of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Waikoloa Village, Kapaʻau, Honokaʻa, Kamuela, Waipiʻo Valley, Puako, Waimanu Valley, Kawaihae, Kohala Ranch, Kukuihaele, Puʻuanahulu, Pololu Valley, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Halaula, Hawī, Paʻauilo, Oʻokala, Waikiʻi and Mauna Lani.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 3:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
