Flood Advisory Issued for Areas in East Hawaiʻi

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for areas in East Hawaiʻi until 6:30 p.m.

At 3:16 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over windward Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View, Glenwood, Volcano, Hawaiian Acres, Keaʻau, Orchidlands Estates,
Papaikou, Pepeʻekeō, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Pāhoa, Honomū, Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Oʻokala, Paʻauilo and Kurtistown.

Officials advise staying away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 630 PM HST if flooding persists.
