Rain, Snow Bring Weather Warnings Thursday

A flood advisory was issued for the eastern side of Hawai‘i Island this afternoon. It’s expected to last until 6:45 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.

Radar indicated persistent moderate to locally heavy rain falling at a rate of up to 1.5 inches per hour over the Hilo and Puna Districts of windward Big Island.

Expect showers to continue through the afternoon and into the evening, NWS stated. Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres, Glenwood, Orchidlands Estates, Kea‘au, Pāhoa, Volcano, Papaikou, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Pepe‘ekeo, Honomū, Hakalau, Nīnole, Kurtistown, Fern Acres, Eden Roc and Fern Forest.

A winter weather advisory cautioning of 2 inches of snow and freezing rain was also issued for Big Island summits beginning this evening and lasting until noon on Friday.
