Forecast for Big Island Leeward

Swell Summary

A west-northwest swell will continue today before fading tonight. Surf is expected to peak just below advisory levels for north and west facing shores of Kauai with this swell. The current east- northeast swell, combined with the strong east trades, will maintain rough and choppy surf along east facing shores, but is expected to remain just below advisory levels. A couple other northwest swells are expected to arrive Wednesday night and also Thursday night, but heights with these swells are currently expected to be about half of the swell expected tonight.

NORTH EAST

Surf: Ankle high NE short period wind swell in the morning builds in the afternoon with occasional sets up to waist high.

Conditions: Sideshore texture/chop with SSE winds 10-15mph in the morning shifting SE for the afternoon.

NORTH WEST

Surf: Minimal (ankle high or less) surf.

Conditions: Clean in the early morning with SE winds less than 5mph. Sideshore texture/chop conditions move in during the morning hours with the winds shifting SW 5-10mph.

WEST

Surf: Minimal (ankle high or less) surf.

Conditions: Semi glassy in the morning with SE winds less than 5mph. Glassy conditions for the afternoon with the winds shifting to the SW.

SOUTH EAST

Surf: Small scale (ankle to knee high) surf.

Conditions: Light sideshore texture with NNE winds 5-10mph in the morning shifting NE for the afternoon.
