A high surf advisory issued earlier this week for east-facing shores of Hawaiʻi Island remains in effect through Christmas morning, Dec. 25.

Due to high surf, Bayfront Highway is reclosed until surf subsides. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents to continue, making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers are advised to heed ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Know that beaches may be closed without notice.
