Police identified the 28-year-old man who died following a two-vehicle collision in the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 20, in Kea‘au as Patrick G. Enos Jr. of Hilo.

The crash occurred at 1:57 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 11 and Kipimana Street. Police determined that Enos was driving a 2004 Chevy Malibu traveling south on Highway 11 when he ran the red light at the Kipimana Street intersection and struck a 2012 Dodge Ram traveling west crossing Kipimana.

Because of the high rate of speed, the Chevy Malibu continued to travel more than 450 feet from the scene of the collision and rolled over several times before coming to rest on the highway shoulder. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured.

A 27-year-old female front-seat passenger of the Chevy Malibu was transported to Hilo Medical Center for minor injuries.
