The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores through Wednesday, Dec. 22. The advisory is expected to last until 6 p.m.
A medium-period northeast swell will combine with shorter period wind waves to produce rough and choppy surf along east-facing shores bringing surf of seven to 10 feet.
Impacts are expected to be moderate. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
