Flash Flood Advisory Issued for East Hawaiʻi

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood advisory that is in effect until 10:15 p.m.

At 7:14 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over Windward Big Island, especially in the vicinity of Hilo. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Keaʻau, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Glenwood, Papaikou, Pepeʻekeo, Volcano, Pāhoa, Honomū, Hakalau, Ninole, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Laupahoehoe, Oʻokala, Paʻauilo and Kurtistown.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 10:15 p.m. if flooding persists.
