Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced road and lane closures on the Big Island for the week of Dec. 11-18. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

— HAWAIʻI BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) —

HONOLII TO HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Kahoa Place and Chin Chuck Road on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Monday, Dec. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing along embankments.

PAPAIKOA

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Old Mamalahoa Highway/Kaaukai Place and Government Road/Silverton Camp Mill Road on Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for sewer line repairs.

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Government Road/Silverton Camp Mill and Old Mamalahoa Highway/Kaapoko Homestead Road on Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for waterline installation.

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Kulaimano Road and Kapehu Stream on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Monday, Dec. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing along embankments.

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Old Māmalahoa Highway/Airstrip Road and Honomu Road on Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing/shoulder work.

HONOMU (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

MAULUA TO PAPAALOA

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between Kaihuiki Road and Papaa Loa Avenue on Tuesday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing/grass cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between Aliʻi Drive and vicinity of Kiilae Road, on Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., for paving.

NAPOʻOPOʻO (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between Kaohe Road and Kukui O Pae Place, on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing/grass cutting.

— VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) —

HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 27 and 38 on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Monday, Dec. 13 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for sign installations.

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between vicinity of North Peck Road and vicinity of North Kopua Road, on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and mulching.

KURTISTOWN TO KEAʻAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between vicinity of North Road and Keaʻau Loop, on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Monday, Dec. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing/grass cutting.

KEAʻAU-PĀHOA ROAD (ROUTE 130) —

Single lane closure on Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road (Route 130) in the east/southbound direction between Hawaiʻi Belt Road and vicinity of Opukahaia Street, on Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for paving.

PĀHOA

Single lane closure on Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between Ka Ohuwalu Drive and Kahakai Boulevard, on Tuesday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing/grass cutting.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) —

WAIMEA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between vicinity of Waimea Kohala Airport and Kamakoa Gulch, on Saturday, Dec. 11 through Monday, Dec. 13, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder restoration.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between Kamakoa Gulch and vicinity of Saddle Road, on Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for safety improvements.
