Several inches of rain fell on Hawaiʻi Island overnight with the most recorded precipitation falling in Honokaʻa, according to data from the National Weather Service this morning.
According to an NWS rain summary report printed at 9:45 a.m., the Hāmākua community received 2.82 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. The second-highest recorded rainfall was at the USGS site Kawainui Stream in Kamuela with 2.38 inches.
The rain was brought on by a cold front that stalled over Hawaiʻi Island. The county created a real-time hazard map for people to watch this storm and the others to come after.
Kaloko-Hōnokohau recorded the most rain falling on the leeward side of the island in the past 24 hours with 1.49 inches.

In the past 24 hours, Hilo International Airport saw .31 inches of rain. Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport recorded 1.1 inches.

Blizzard and high wind warnings are currently in effect for Big Island summits. Up to 12 inches or more of snow is expected on Maunakea with winds gusting over 100 mph.

The blizzard warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday and the high wind warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday.
