Flood Advisory Issued for Multiple Big Island Districts

A flood advisory is in effect until 4 pm for a large section of the Big Island.

At 12:56 pm HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the Kona and Ka´u Districts. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with heavier rates under thunderstorms. Additional heavy showers are expected over the next several hours.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Honaunau, Pahala, Punalu´u Beach, Hawaiian Ocean View, Kawa
Flats, Na´alehu, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honalo, Pohakuloa Training Area, Kahalu´u-Keauhou, Miloli´i, Waiohinu and Discovery Harbour.

Minor flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible on roads, in poor drainage areas and in streams. The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
