Flood Advisory Issued For Several Areas on Big Island

A flood advisory is in effect until 8 pm Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 17, for the Big Island.

At 1:58 pm, radar indicated heavy rain over windward portions of the Big Island near Hilo. Rain was falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour.

Some locations that may experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honoka´a, Honomu, Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Mountain View, O´okala, Glenwood, Kea´au, Volcano, Pa´auilo, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Wainaku and Pauka´a.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 5 pm if flooding persists.
