The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for areas in East Hawaiʻi until 11:45 p.m.

At 8:35 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain, north of Hilo, from Oʻokala to Pepeʻekeo. NWS reports rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Honomu, Hakalau, Oʻokala and Pepeʻekeo.

Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas and streams could occur. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 11:45 p.m. if flooding persists.
