HPD Cites 14 For DUI Over Previous Week
Hawai`i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 840 DUI arrests compared with 770 during the same period last year, an increase of 9.1%.

There have been 639 major accidents so far this year compared with 612 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.4%.
As of Oct. 17, there have been 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 53.8% for fatal crashes and 53.8% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
