HPD Looks Into Puna School Burglary

The Hawai‘i Police Department continues to investigate a burglary that occurred at a school located in the Puna District.

At 7:05 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, Puna Patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary at a Volcano area school. Staff reported that a break-in occurred sometime between 7 p.m., Sunday Oct. 17 and 5 a.m. Monday morning. Numerous electronic items were reported stolen.

During the course of investigation, officers determined that suspect(s) pried open a classroom door, taking 11 laptops and two video projectors, valued at more than $4,300. The suspect(s) also attempted to pry open a storage trailer but were unsuccessful.

Investigators say it appears that the suspect(s) knew the layout of the premises.

Police ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Officer Dwight Walker III at (808) 965-2716 or call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
