Crash Closes Major Big Island Intersection

UPDATE: As of 2 pm Sunday, the intersection has reopened.

A traffic collision has closed a major Big Island intersection for the next several hours.

The Hawai´i Police Department reported that the Sunday afternoon incident occurred at the intersection of Daniel K Inouye Highway (Saddle Road) and Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190). The estimated duration is three hours.

Westbound traffic on Daniel K Inouye Highway should detour to Old Saddle Road. Kona-bound traffic on Mamalahoa Highway should detour down Waikoloa Road. South Kohala-bound traffic on Mamalahoa Highway will be directed up Daniel K Inouye Highway.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution and watch out for first responders on-scene.
