High winds are causing dusty road conditions in South Kohala this afternoon, according to the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Civil Defense put out an alert informing drivers that high winds are creating poor visibility between Waimea, Waikoloa Village and Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

Civil Defense reports sustained winds of up to 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph. These conditions are forecasted through Sunday, Oct. 10. Winds are prone to accelerate on downslope areas of Hawaiʻi Island.

Due to the conditions, motorists are advised to be attentive and drive with caution.
