A fire weather watch has been extended for leeward portions of all Hawaiian Islands through Thursday afternoon, Oct. 7.

The initial watch was issued on Tuesday and set to last through Wednesday afternoon, before it was extended.

Due to the lack of significant rainfall through the summer months, fuels have become very dry across portions of the state. These dry conditions, combined with breezy trade winds and low relative humidities, will lead to critical fire conditions.

Trade winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts to 30 mph. Humidity is forecast at 40 to 45 percent during the afternoon hours.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
