County to Reconfigure North Kona Traffic Light Patterns

The Hawai´i County Traffic Division will be retiming and coordinating traffic signals in the North Kona area beginning Sept. 28 in an effort to ease roadway congestion, particularly during peak usage hours.

As a result, there will be three different plans created for traffic patterns: one for the morning from 6 am to 9 am, one for the mid-day period from 9 am to 2:30 pm, and one for the afternoon and early evening hours of 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

ICX Transportation Group has been contracted to observe the traffic flow from Sept. 28-30, 2021, and will assist to fine tune the traffic pattern plans.

The signals included in this project are as follows:

  • Hwy 19 at Hale Mākaʻi Place (police
  • station road)
  • Hwy 19 at Makala Blvd
  • Hwy 19 at Hwy 190 (Palani Road)
  • Hwy 11 at Henry Street
  • Hwy 11 at Malulani Drive
  • Hwy 11 at Nani Kailua Drive
  • Hwy 11 at Puapuaanui Street
  • Hwy 11 at Lako Street
  • Hwy 11 at Seaview Circle
  • Hwy 11 at Laaloa Avenue
  • Hwy 11 at Kamehameha III Road
  • Palani Rd at the Lanihau Shopping
  • Center
  • Kuakini Hwy at Palani Road
  • Kuakini Hwy at Henry Street
  • Kuakini Hwy at Hanama Place
  • Kuakini Hwy at Kalani Street
  • Kuakini Hwy at Hualalai Road
  • Hwy 190 at Henry St, Ane
  • Keohokalole Highway
  • Henry St at Malulani Drive
