Main Big Island Road Closed in Both Directions

UPDATE: HPD reports that Highway 11 near the 16-mile marker in Upper Puna is now open to all traffic.
Hawai´i Police Department officials reported late Friday morning, Sept. 17 that Highway 11 is closed in both directions.
The closure is near the 16-mile area due to a motor vehicle collision. No details on the incident were provided other than to say that both lanes are shut to through traffic.
There are no detours in this area and motorists are asked to remain entirely clear of it until the road is reopened. No timeline has been made available.
