12 Arrested for DUI Over the Past Week

Twelve motorists were arrested during the week of Aug. 30 to Sept. 5 for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 739 DUI arrests compared with 639 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.7%.

There have been 543 major accidents so far this year compared with 524 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.6%.

To date, there were 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 23.1% for fatal crashes and 23.1% for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
