Wind Advisory Issued for North Kohala to Kaʻū
A wind advisory has been issued for various parts of the Big Island starting at 6 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, trade winds are expected to be 15 to 30 mph with localized gusts near 50 mph. Areas affected include North and South Kohala, Hāmākua, Hilo, Kaʻū and island interiors.
Winds this strong could knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings, and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high-profile vehicles.
Officials warn the public to watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Make
sure tents and awnings are secure or take them down. Be prepared for localized power outages.
