The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a fire weather watch for Kohala in effect starting Friday morning through the afternoon.
Gusty winds and low humidity are predicted for leeward areas throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Trade winds are anticipated to be 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts. Humidity is expected to be 40 to 45% through the late afternoon hours.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
