Police Arrest 15 For DUI

Hawai‘i Island police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the last week. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 715 DUI arrests compared with 595 during the same period last year, an increase of 20.2%.

There have been 512 major accidents so far this year compared with 495 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.4%. 

To date, there have been 14 fatal crashes resulting in 14 fatalities compared with 12 fatal crashes resulting in 12 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 16.7% for fatal crashes and 16.7% for fatalities. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
