4-Car Crash on Highway 190 Sends 6 to Hospital

Six people were transported to an area hospital after a four-car crash on Highway 190 near mile-marker 11 on Monday, Aug. 16.

Hawaiʻi Police Department closed the roadway in both directions at approximately 9 pm. According to the Hawaiʻi Fire Department, two of the vehicles involved in the crash were overturned.

Three of the individuals transported to a nearby hospital had minor injuries and the other three were in serious condition. HFD officials say none of the patients suffered critical injuries.

According to HFD, it was raining at the time of the collision. The road was closed for several hours as both lanes were blocked by the wreckage of vehicles. It has since been reopened.
