Flood Advisory Issued For Big Island Into Monday Night

UPDATE: AS OF 7 PM ON MONDAY NIGHT, AUG. 16, THE FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE BIG ISLAND HAS BEEN CANCELED.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawai´i County until 7 pm HST.

At 3:58 pm HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the Kohala Mountains falling up to 2 inches per hour.

Some locations that could experience flooding include Kapa´au, Kohala Ranch, Kawaihae, Pololu Valley, Halaula, Waimanu Valley, Puako, Hawi, Kamuela, Waipio Valley and Mahukona.

People are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

This advisory may need to be extended if flooding persists.
