No injuries were reported after a structure fire in Waikoloa Friday, Aug. 6.

At 9:26 p.m., Hawaii Fire Department received a call about a garage fire located on the 69-9000 block of Ainamalu Street. When crews arrived on scene, the garage was fully engulfed and flames were spreading to the main house.

Thirty-five percent of the home was involved in the fire, HFD reported. The two occupants of the residents self-evacuated.

The fire was brought under control at the 2,200-square-foot single-story structure with an offensive interior attack, HFD officials stated. The blaze was contained to 45% of the original structure.

“High winds contributed to rapid-fire expansion,” according to HFD. “Additional companies assisted with salvage and overhaul.”

HFD estimates $135,000 damages caused by the blaze. The fire remains under investigation.
