County Closes Brushfire Evacuation Shelters, Opens Roads

UPDATE: As of 7:20 pm Monday night, Old Saddle Road is open to traffic.
Hawai´i County Civil Defense reported Monday evening that all evacuation shelters opened due to the ongoing brushfire in the South Kohala District have been closed.
As of 5:30 pm, the Hawai´i Police Department had reopened Waikoloa Road from Paniolo Drive to Highway 190. It was reported that Highway 190 has also been reopened from Waimea to the Daniel K. Inouye Highway intersection.
Old Saddle Road remains closed, but Waiki´i residents will be allowed to access to their properties.
Firefighting efforts will continue through Monday night, as the blaze is still not fully contained.
