Kapiʻolani Community College student’s winning culinary creation, Wafu (Japanese style) ‘ulu stew, will be available at 7-Eleven Hawai‘i stores for a limited time.

The winning dish will be available beginning Aug. 3, for a minimum of four weeks. Eri Abe’s savory stew and fellow student Jeongyeon Shim’s tteokbokki, spicy rice cake stir-fry, were the co-first-place winners of a 7-Eleven Hawai‘i competition in December 2020.

  • Shim’s tteokbokki, spicy rice cake stir-fry, was featured at 7-Eleven Hawai‘i locations earlier this summer.
  • Both Abe and Shim graduated from Kapi‘olani CC in the spring.

The contest for Kapi‘olani CC and Leeward CC culinary students was to create a better-for-you bento or entrée.

Wafu ‘ulu stew will sell for $5.99 at O‘ahu stores and $6.99 at stores on other islands.
