Weekly DUI Stats: 20 Arrested on Big Island Roads

Twenty motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of July 19-25.

Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 659 DUI arrests compared with 504 during the same period last year, an increase of 30.8%.

There have been 435 major accidents so far this year compared with 441 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.4%.

To date, there were 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities, compared with 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 18.2% for fatal crashes and 18.2% for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
