HPD Cites 19 For DUI Over Last Week

Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 639 DUI arrests compared with 483 during the same period last year, an increase of 32.3%.

There have been 421 major accidents so far this year compared with 425 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.9%. 

To date, there have been 13 fatal crashes resulting in 13 fatalities compared with 11 fatal crashes resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 18.2% for fatal crashes, and 18.2% for fatalities. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
