Big Island Virus Numbers Hover Around Double Digits Again Friday

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 69 new cases of coronavirus statewide Friday, bringing the overall total to 38,265. No new COVID-related deaths were reported.

Nine new cases were identified on the Big Island Friday, with 91 active cases and six persons hospitalized, according to statistics provided by Hawai‘i County Civil Defense. The state’s two-week average is 45 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 2.0%.

The island-by-island case count is as follows:

O‘ahu: 27,382
Maui: 3,906
Hawai‘i: 3,248
Kaua‘i: 404
Lana‘i: 112
Moloka‘i: 56
Pending: 0
Out-of-State: 1,373

A total of 2,515 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 519 have died.

To date, more than 1.7 million doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered statewide.
