Police Cite 13 For DUI

Hawai`i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 543 DUI arrests compared with 384 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 41.4%.

There have been 352 major accidents so far this year compared with 367 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.1%. 

To date, there have been 11 fatal crashes resulting in 11 fatalities compared with nine fatal crashes resulting in nine fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 22.2% for fatal crashes, and 22.2% for fatalities.
