Flames Engulf Big Island Residence Sunday
A residential fire consumed a Kohala home on the Big Island Sunday, May 16. According to a release from the American Red Cross, the blaze impacted a family of eight individuals.
Red Cross disaster volunteers are meeting with affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met. Caseworkers will continue to follow up with anyone affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process, according to the organization’s release.
The Hawai´i Fire Department had not released any official information on the incident as of 5:45 pm Sunday.
A photo of the blaze, snapped by a neighbor to the incident and posted on Facebook, noted that HFD was on-scene as of mid-Sunday afternoon.
