Victim Who Died of Medical Emergency at Kailua Pier Identified

A man was found in the midst of a medical crisis on the Kailua Pier late last month. He was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead.

On Wednesday, May 12, following notification of his next of kin, the Hawaii Police Department identified the deceased as 73-year-old Stephen Lacy of Kailua-Kona.  

The investigation is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest pending receipt of the autopsy results.
 
On April 30, 2021, at approximately 1:16 p.m., Kona Patrol and Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) officers responded to a call at the Kailua Pier of a man in need of medical attention. Upon arrival, Hawaiʻi Fire Department personnel transported Lacey to Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
