DUI Arrests Up Significantly in 2021
Hawai`i Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 427 DUI arrests compared with 299 during the same period last year, an increase of 42.8%.

There have been 267 major accidents so far this year compared with 280 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.6%.
To date, there have been eight fatal crashes resulting in eight fatalities compared with eight fatal crashes resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
