UH Announces Commencement Plans for Campuses Statewide

University of Hawai‘i campuses across the state will host drive-through and Zoom graduations the second year in a row as concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic remain ongoing.

UH campuses on the Big Island will celebrate their graduates in the next couple of weeks. The first is scheduled for May 14 at Hawai‘i Community College in Hilo.

The community college will hold a drive-through ceremony from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Manono campus and live streamed on the Hawai‘i CC YouTube channel. In addition, Nā Leo TV will premier a pre-recorded virtual commencement that includes a kīpaepae ceremony, student speaker, keynote speaker, graduate names and photos, and more at 6 p.m.

UH Hilo commencement will be held on May 15. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a kīhei tying ceremony via Zoom. At 9 a.m. the virtual commencement presentation will premiere on the UH Hilo YouTube Channel. Also on May 15, Hawaiʻi Community College–Pālamanui and University Center in Kona will hold its drive-through ceremony from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Graduates will be given a time to drive through, receive their diploma and have a photo taken. In addition, Nā Leo TV will present a pre-recorded virtual commencement that includes a kīpaepae, student speaker, keynote speaker, graduate names and photos, and more. The program premieres May 14 and will continue to air on Nā Leo TV for several weeks and will also be available online.
