HPD Cites 21 For DUI, Nearly Half in Kona

Hawai`i Island police arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 405 DUI arrests compared with 288 during the same period last year, an increase of 40.6%.

There have been 249 major accidents so far this year compared with 269 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.4%. 
 
To date, there have been eight fatal crashes resulting in eight fatalities compared with eight fatal crashes resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year. 
 
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
