Police Arrest 19 For DUI

Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 302 DUI arrests compared with 262 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3%.

There have been 177 major accidents so far this year compared with 232 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23.7%. 

To date, there have been seven fatal crashes resulting in seven fatalities compared with seven fatal crashes resulting in seven fatalities for the same time last year.
