Big Island police reported that Highway 11, near the intersection of Kanoelehua Avenue and Kahaopea Street, is closed in both directions due to a downed tree.
When it fell, the tree also took down multiple power lines. There is no current estimate on when the road will be cleared, though HPD said all relevant agencies necessary to clear the road have been called and were on the scene before 4:30 pm Monday.
For those motorists heading south, the only detour to bypass the intersection is Kīlauea Avenue. Those heading north toward the airport are advised to find a usable side road route prior to reaching Kawailani Street.
