The Hawai´i Police Department has closed Kīlauea Avenue between Hale Manu Road and Highway 11, as of just before 2:30 pm Thursday.
The road is expected to be closed into Thursday evening and impact the daily commute to Puna.
Neither the department or Hawai´i County provided a specific reason for the closure. Both entities typically list the causes of road closures, which are often related to weather events or vehicle wrecks.
Motorists are asked to enter Highway 11, also known as Kanoelehua Avenue, before reaching West Palai Street for the drive to Puna.
