Severe Weather Closes Several Big Island Roads

UPDATE, 11 pm on Tuesday, March 9: All roads are now open except for Highway 132 between mile marker 7 and 4-Corners.

A traffic advisory has been issued for Route 11 near South Glenwood Road, which is closed in both directions due to several downed trees.

Motorists should expect significant delays while on-scene officers re-route traffic onto South Glenwood Road and Kahaualea Road. The closure is expected to last several hours.

All Big Island road closures as of 5 pm Tuesday evening are listed by district below:

Ka`u District: Ka`alaiki Road in Na`alehu and Wood Valley Road.

Puna District: Highway 11 between mile markers 19 and 20 due to a tree in the road, and Highway 132 between mile marker 7 and 4-Corners due to poor visibility.

Hilo District: East Kawailani Street and Kukila Street.
