HPD Cites 16 For DUI

Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the previous week. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 182 DUI arrests compared with 156 during the same period last year, an increase of 16.7%.

There have been 97 major accidents so far this year compared with 145 during the same period last year, a decrease of 33.1%.
To date there have been five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities compared with five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
