Police Arrest 26 For DUI

Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 166 DUI arrests compared with 141 during the same period last year, an increase of 17.7%.

There have been 87 major accidents so far this year compared with 125 during the same period last year, a decrease of 30.4%. 

To date, there have been five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities compared with five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities for the same time last year.
