Volcano Art Center Offering Figure Drawing Class
Volcano Art Center will present a figure drawing workshop led by artist Rose Adare on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at its Ni‘aulani Campus in Volcano Village.
Straying from convention, the class will teach techniques like “The Tornado” and “Pop & Lock Draw” to provide fresh perspectives on drawing. Attendees will also learn about how music, stance and movement can influence their work on paper.
The fee to attend is $65, $60 for VAC members, plus a $10 model fee. Attending students should bring a pen, notebook, drawing materials like charcoal, pencil, erasers, and a large pad of paper measuring at least 11” x 14″. To register, call Volcano Art Center at (808) 967-8222 or visit www.volcanoartcenter.org.
Adare is a graduate of the San Francisco Academy of Art University who trained under master artist David Hardy. She began her career in fine art at The Muse Studio, founding the annual Muse Showcase: A Celebration in Art and Music, in Berkeley, California. Struck by a municipal train in 2005, Adare spent the following years in physical rehabilitation and retaught herself how to paint, returning to the art scene in 2009. Her portrait series Restraint & Revolution was featured as part of a three-woman shared solo show at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, and toured throughout the U.S.
