Portion of Kawailani Street to Close for Construction
Hawai‘i Electric Light announced the closure of a portion of Kawailani Street in Hilo from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between July 16 to July 20. During this period, Kawailani Street between Kapualani Street and Naniakea Street will be open to local traffic only.
To reduce impacts to traffic, crews will work at night to install 12 new utility poles as part of the County of Hawai‘i’s Kawailani Street Improvement Project. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes along Puainako Street and Haihai Street. Local residents are advised to drive with caution in the construction area. No power outages are expected while the work is being performed.
Hawai‘i Electric Light thanks the community for their patience and understanding. For questions or concerns or to report a power outage, call (808) 969-6666.
