Two More Cited for Loitering in Closed Lava Zone

The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) officers cited two more people for allegedly being in a closed area in the East Rift Eruption Zone over the weekend.

Cited at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018, were Colin Malone, 31, and Kent Davis, 59, both from California.

Officers say the pair was cited on Pohoiki Road past Lava Tree State Monument.

This brings the total number of citations issued under Hawai‘i County ordinance (HCC 7-10(1) to 86.

The citations are petty misdemeanors but under a governor’s proclamation people convicted could be fined as much as $5,000 and/or be sentenced to one year in jail.
