Videographer Mick Kalber released this video of an overflight of the East Rift Zone he took with Paradise Helicopters on Saturday, July 1, 2018.

Kalber stated:

Pele [the volcano goddess] continues to destroy homes north of the Kapoho Beach Lots. Although there are conflicting reports as to the total number of homes taken, Hawaii News Now is saying as of today [July 1, 2018], 671 homes have been consumed by fire from lava.

The USGS tells us 6,100 acres have now been covered by the eruption, which began on May 3 of this year. The survey also reports that the eruption has added at least 405 acres to the Big Island.

She [Pele] is now still advancing toward the Alahanui Hot Pond and Kua ‘O Ka La Charter School, but an increase in activity in the Kapoho Bay area appears to have slowed her advance.

An enormous ocean entry between Kapoho Bay and the former Vacationland subdivision dominates the flow front.
