One Night Only: The Fairy Tale of All Fairy Tales, Cinderella Ballet
The West Hawai‘i Dance Theatre (WHDT) & Academy Presents the Fairy Tale of all Fairy Tales, Cinderella Ballet, for one performance only, Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 5 p.m. at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
Over 70 talented dancers from Hawai‘i Island and Maui, guest professional dancers, stunning costumes and magical sets are all brought together with narration and musical accompaniment to tell the timeless story of a young girl who discovers her prince with a little help from her fairy godmother.
The full-length production of Cinderella is a choreographed collaboration by West Hawai‘i Dance Theatre and Academy’s Founder and Artistic Director; Virginia Holte, Assistant Director; Midori Satoh, along with Instructors Megan Joy Chapman, Juanita Finkenberg, Jenna Ojeda and Ann Marie Pargett. Additional choreography is by Guest Choreographer Paul Maley, Dean of Dance at Mid-Pacific Institute on O‘ahu. WHDT student Soleil Fitz-Gerald assists with the creation and continuity of the production. Dance disciplines of Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical and Tap are represented in this family friendly performance.
A compilation of classical and contemporary music from different composers is included with piano accompaniment is by West Hawai‘i Dance Theatre & Academy’s pianist, Megumi Kopp.
Because of its admirable themes of kindness and hope, the fairy tale Cinderella has mesmerized children and adults for hundreds of years. Watching the story come alive through the artistic performances of these talented dancers in elaborate costumes with magical sets will encourage audiences to dream their dreams and offer hope and kindness to those around them.
Pre-Performance Event: A silent auction and boutique will be held in the lobby. Proceeds will benefit WHDT’s ongoing programs, scholarship fund and studio renovations. There will also be other surprises for attendees including the opportunity for their “little princesses” to try on for size the lost slipper.
