The Hawai‘i County Fire Department reports that on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 12:59 p.m., firefighters responded to a tractor vs. pedestrian accident on Highway 130 (Pāhoa/Kalapana Road) around the 14 mile marker.

Upon arrival of the accident, firefighters found a male in his late 30’s laying in a Hilo bound lane, conscious and with obvious injuries to legs. The patient, who is a worker with the State Highways Division, was standing in a roadway while a heavy equipment tractor excavator was cutting trees.

The operator of the tractor was unaware that there was someone in the roadway. The patient got hit by the tractor excavator tracks and the patients legs got pinned under them. The patient was treated and transported to Hilo Medical Center for further evaluation.
